What are the World of Hyatt membership tiers?

World of Hyatt offers three elite membership tiers: Discoverist, Explorist, Globalist. To learn more about specific benefits and membership requirements of World of Hyatt, please visit the World of Hyatt Membership Benefits page.

How do I earn tier status in World of Hyatt?

World of Hyatt offers three elite tiers: Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist.

All tier qualifications must be achieved within one calendar year (January 1 – December 31) and members must re-qualify for tier status each calendar year. Discoverist status may be achieved after completing 10 Tier-Qualifying Nights or earning 25,000 Base Points or 3 Qualifying Meetings or Events held in each calendar year, Explorist status may be achieved after completing 30 Tier-Qualifying Nights or earning 50,000 Base Points or 10 Qualifying Meetings or Events held in each calendar year, and Globalist status may be achieved after completing 60 Tier-Qualifying Nights or earning 100,000 Base Points or 20 Qualifying Meetings or Events held in each calendar year.

Tier Tier-Qualifying Nights Base Points Qualifying Meetings or Events
Discoverist  10 25,000  3
Explorist 30 50,000  10
Globalist  60 100,000 20

What is a Tier-Qualifying Night?

A Tier-Qualifying Night is any night when the member stays at a Hyatt hotel or resort or an MGM Rewards destination, pays an Eligible Rate or redeems a free night award, and associates his or her World of Hyatt membership number with the reservation.

What defines a qualifying meeting or event to count towards elite status?

A qualifying meeting or event is defined as one night with 10 or more occupied guest rooms per event or meeting.

Are the points I earn through qualifying meetings Base Points or Bonus Points?

All points earned through qualifying meetings are Bonus Points and will not be considered when evaluating a member's qualification for elite status.

What is a Base Point? / How do I earn Base Points?

Base Points are those points that count toward a member’s tier status in World of Hyatt. Base Points are points earned when paying for certain eligible charges (5 Base Points / $1 eligible US Dollar) and may be earned when paying an Eligible Rate, or through dining, spa and other experiences. Both Base Points and Bonus Points may be redeemed for World of Hyatt rewards, but only Base Points help a member progress towards tier status.

You can track your point earning, including viewing your year-to-date Base Points, by logging into your account at hyatt.com/world.

What is an Eligible Rate?

An Eligible Rate is any room rate published by Hyatt (including rates found on hyatt.com, without the application of a discount code, and Hyatt’s “Standard Rate,” “Volume Account Rates,” and “Senior Citizen Rate,” and Hyatt Privé rate) or, for Miraval, published by Miraval.

Can I earn Base Points towards tier status on Eligible Incidental Charges, even if I am paying an Ineligible Rate?

Yes, you can earn Base Points on Eligible Incidental Charges, even if the reservation is booked at an ineligible room rate. All Base Points earned on Eligible Incidental Charges count towards tier status.

Can I earn Base Points when I am not a registered guest?

You can earn Base Points on eligible dining, spa, and other charges incurred at participating outlets at Hyatt hotels or resorts, even if you are not a registered guest.

What is a Bonus Point?

Bonus Points are all points that are not Base Points. Like Base Points, Bonus Points may be redeemed for World of Hyatt awards. However, Bonus Points are not counted toward a member’s tier status in World of Hyatt. Bonus Points include (without limitation): percentage bonuses awarded to members with Discoverist status (10%), Explorist status (20%), Globalist status (30%), points earned through qualifying meetings or events, points earned through the Hyatt Credit Card, points that are purchased or received by transfer or gift, and points earned through a promotional offer (unless the terms of the promotional offer expressly state otherwise).

How often will I receive my World of Hyatt account summary?

Statements are emailed every month, when you provide us with your email address and select to receive your account summary electronically on the Communications Preferences tab in the My Profile section.

Will I be required to have activity to keep my World of Hyatt account open?

If a Member’s account is inactive for twenty-four (24) consecutive months, all points in that member’s account will be forfeited at that time, but, subject to the program terms, the member’s account will remain open (with the ability to earn new points thereafter). (Prior to July 1, 2017, members whose accounts were inactive for twenty-four (24) consecutive months had their membership terminated and all points in and awards or benefits associated with that member’s account were forfeited upon termination.)

How can I keep my account active?

You can remain active in World of Hyatt in the following ways:

i. Receive points (earned on eligible stay/spend at a participating Hyatt or MGM Rewards destination, etc.)

ii. Redeem points (free night stays, room upgrades, Dining, Spa & More, Avis car rentals, etc.)
iii. Receive credit with a travel partner or MGM Rewards Tier Credits for a stay at a Hyatt hotel or resort
iv. Gift eligible awards to another member (as permitted under the World of Hyatt terms)
v. Convert points into miles/credit with a travel partner
vi. Purchase points
vii. Combine points with another World of Hyatt member’s account
viii. Have an active Hyatt Credit Card associated with your World of Hyatt account

Please note that, if a member redeems points for an award reservation and either cancels that reservation or does not actually check-in on the appointed date (i.e., no-shows), that will not count as a redemption of points and will not affect the measurement of that member’s World of Hyatt activity.

If, prior to July 1, 2017, my account was closed after 24 months of inactivity, is there any way to get the points back?

No, once an account is closed and points are forfeited due to inactivity, the World of Hyatt points cannot be reinstated.

If my points were forfeited due to inactivity on or after July 1, 2017, is there any way to get the points back?

No, once points have been forfeited, the World of Hyatt points cannot be reinstated. However, subject to the program terms, a member’s account will remain open (with the ability to earn new points thereafter).

How long is my current tier status valid?

Please sign in to the Account Details page to verify when your tier expiration date is. To requalify for tier status, the standard applicable Tier-Qualifying Nights or Base Points must be earned within each calendar year.

How many points do I currently have in my account? What can I use them for?

Please sign into world.hyatt.com to view your Base Points and your point total. Points can be used for free nights at Hyatt hotels and resorts and participating MGM Rewards destinations in Las Vegas, as well as for room upgrades at Hyatt hotels and resorts. For your convenience, use our Awards Calculator to assist you in tabulating how many points you need for your awards. Points can also be converted to airline miles with participating airline partners or redeemed for rentals with our car partner, Avis®.

Why doesn't my statement show my most recent stay?

If your monthly statement is missing recent activity, please contact World of Hyatt Customer Service for assistance.

Can I get credit for stays prior to enrollment in World of Hyatt?

Stays prior to enrollment in World of Hyatt are not eligible for Tier-Qualifying Night credit or Base Points.

If I did not get credit for a stay while a member of World of Hyatt, how can I get credit?

As World of Hyatt member you may request credit for stays up to one year after check-out. Please allow 2-3 weeks from your check-out date for your stays to appear in your account. To request retroactive credit, simply complete and submit your request using our online Past Stay Credit form.

Why are In-hotel Benefits not offered to members who stay under an Ineligible Rate?

Booking an Eligible Rate enables World of Hyatt to provide members with the best value, loyalty program benefits, and personalized experiences during their stays, leading to deeper relationships with guests.

Can I get an upgrade when staying at a Hyatt for being a World of Hyatt member?

Membership with World of Hyatt does not guarantee a room upgrade. We do offer awards that can be used to upgrade reservations (subject to minimum room-type and rate requirements for the underlying reservation). Please see the Awards Chart for details.

In addition, members with elite status may receive a room upgrade (based on availability at check-in) as a benefit of their elite membership as detailed below:

Subject to availability, Discoverists will be offered a preferred room at time of check-in at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts. Preferred rooms are determined by each hotel or resort (in its sole discretion) and include rooms on higher floors, corner rooms, or rooms with more appealing views. Preferred rooms are particular rooms that may be more desirable, but are within the same room type/category booked by the member; they are not a “price point” upgrade in room type or category.

Explorists will be offered the best room available at the time of check-in at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts, excluding suites and Club lounge-access rooms. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the member.

Globalists will receive the best room available at the time of check-in at participating Hyatt hotels and resorts, including standard suites and rooms with Club lounge-access. The best room available will be determined by the applicable hotel or resort in its sole discretion and may vary from stay-to-stay. The “best room” may, but will not necessarily be, of a room type/category higher than that booked by the member. Best-room-available benefit includes only standard suites (where available), which are defined as rooms within each participating hotel’s or resort’s introductory suite category. Specialty, Premier, Presidential, Diplomatic, and other suites other than standard suites are not included in this benefit.

Does Hyatt have a credit card?

Yes. For more information regarding the credit card, please click here.

How can I make sure I received my World of Hyatt Bonus Points from a promotional offer?

At the time of checkout your receipt will indicate your World of Hyatt account has been credited for your stay and bonus point offer. To verify that you have received the appropriate Bonus Points, sign in to your account and the Bonus Points will appear listed in your Account Details.

I did not receive my World of Hyatt Bonus Points on my qualifying stay, how can I get them added to my stay?

If a qualifying stay is posted to your account, but it is missing Bonus Points from a requested offer, you may complete a Past Stay Credit Request and request "Bonus Only" credit. You may also contact World of Hyatt Customer Service to have the stay reviewed.
